January Fun

Here we are in January. December went by quickly. We had a nice Christmas here at home. I had the choir sing on Christmas Eve, and we had a pretty big turn out of visitors, so that was good. Then Christmas was fun. The kids got a lot of fun new things to play with, and I tried a new recipe for Beef Bourguignon. I tried it for the first time in New York and it was delicious. My version turned out pretty good too.

This month is back to school and normal activities. I have frontloaded Alex’s school work and she’s not too thrilled about it, but I think it will be good toward the end of the year. She’s on the cusp of taking off on reading. David has been wanting to do School work everyday as well. I have a few things he does at the table, and often wants to do more. I think he will definitely be ready for Kindergarten.

Today was a snow day. They had expected a pretty good one, but we only ended up with about a half-inch. It is amazing what the kids can do with a little snow. They made small snowmen, snow angels, followed animal tracks, and had snowball fights. We did all our shopping early, so today we will just be spending the rest of the day from the comfort of our home.

My big project the last few months has been an aquarium. I bought a ten gallon one, set it up with live plants and some natural looking decorations. Then just before Christmas the kids got to pick out their own fish. We ended up with some Endler Guppies. We purchased 3 and ended up with several hitchhiker fry babies as well. The kids (especially Alex) are enjoying the tank with me. Our plan is to get all the fish in there for a bit and then add some Red Cherry Shrimp. It has been a fun new hobby. Good for the winter!
