I’ve meant to post a blog post more often than I have, but better late than never.
We are now into winter here in the mountains. The leaves are gone and every looks dead… it’s my least favorite time here. Ive been trying to keep busy and not be too cooped up with the colder weather, but it hasn’t worked out well. The kids seem to keep getting sick. In the beginning of November they both had a cold. After stuffy noses kept them up a few nights, they recovered in time for Grandma and Grandpa Misch to come visit. We had a nice visit and I enjoyed hosting an early Thanksgiving dinner for us all.

Then the kids got sick again, seemed like another cold… and now this week we are dealing with another bug. We had a nice outing to the parade on Sunday and as soon as David went to bed that night Alex started feeling sick. She had a fever and chills with a sore throat. Amazingly, it lasted about 24 hrs. I wondered if David would catch it, and he did. I noticed him breathing heavily the other morning and checked his heart rate and it was very high for a resting rate. Not SVT range, but not where it should be. So after back and forths with pediatrician and cardiologist, we took him to the pediatrician. It’s probably just a virus and the elevated heart rate is a symptom of his body fighting it off. Cardiologist didn’t seem concerned… but it was a stressful day.

On more positive notes, we have been doing some fun things in between bouts of sickness. We decorated for Christmas. Alex enjoyed putting the ornaments on the tree again this year. David enjoyed carrying all the gifts we had stacked in our room to the living room. He now will mostly leave the tree alone, but we had to put a gate up again this year.

We checked out the Hazelwood “Old-Timey” Parade. The kids had fun. Alex even started waving at people going by. Next year we will check out the big Waynesville one again and skip this one. The timing of the parade was perfect for nap time and we walked down to see it- which is why we did this one instead. I’m glad we went.
Alex enjoyed her first time at the new gymnastics. She did very well and only got scared a couple of times. I really enjoyed her last place, but it wasn’t a good fit for her. She was getting used to it by the end, but I think it was the right call to switch her.
I am looking forward to Christmas. Alex has been so fun to do Christmas activities with. We have all of our shopping done and now we just get to do fun Christmas things until then. We just finished up decorating some sugar cookies today. I think the next thing we will do is make some cards. Maybe David will join in somehow for it. He is not very interested in coloring or painting yet.

Going to the park with both kids has gotten much easier. David is big enough to go on many of the activities with minimal help and Alex is good about staying with us. David actually went on the big tube slide last time-and loved it.!

Hopefully David will heal up quickly and nobody will get sick again until after Christmas!
