Beginning Summer

It seems like June is the beginning of summer around here. Town is getting busier and the schools are all out. The weather has been really nice. Not too hot, not much rain. My garden is doing really well. The tomato plants are big and flowering. The others aren't quite as big and happy, but it's fun to have a crop doing so well.

We got Alex started in swimming lessons. She did really well on her first day. (She would have rather done her own thing, but did do what she was supposed to do). The teacher has them do a lot of things with putting their heads in the water. Alex was comfortable with blowing bubbles, and eventually got her nose under. She says next time she will try her eyes too.

David is using the potty now. I was planning on buying him some "potty toys" he could play with if he sat on the potty (he's been afraid to do it), but then I saw a new push bubble lawn mower. David really likes the one we have and it has been taped together several times. I told him if he wanted to use the potty that I would buy it for him. He said YES! So we went home and he did it right away. It was actually really easy for him to make the transition as soon as he stopped being scared about it.

For Alex's birthday, she said that she wanted to ride a horse. Luckily for us one of our members has riding horses. I coordinated with her and we went out last week to let Alex try to ride. It was a great experience. She taught Alex about the horse as she got her used to the animal. Alex groomed the horse's tail and main, pet her, fed her treats. Then Alex got right up without hesitation. The horse's name is Smartty Pants. Alex was led around for almost an hour. Then she was gifted a horse stuffed animal. Which she named Smartty Pants.

This week it's our anniversary and we are actually going to go out to dinner. Some friends from church are going to watch the kids and we will go out in Asheville. Looking forward to a busy week!
